Judge Wapner Returns To 'The People's Court'
/>All rise! The Honorable Judge Joseph Wapner is back on "The People's Court", even if it is just for one day. The 81-year-old judge returned to the set of the show this week to celebrate his former show's 3,000th episode, according to AP.
"You may be seated," Wapner murmured, his low-key demeanor a stark contrast to other TV judges currently on air. Wapner was television's only judge when he started "The People's Court" in 1981 after leaving the California bench. Now there are 10 court shows on the air including " Judge Judy" and her husband,Jerry's, who now rules over "The People's Court." There's also Judge Brown, Judge Hatchett, Judge Mathis and Judge Lane. "Judge Judy'' has an audience roughly twice the size of any other court show, and she's the reason there are so many legal shows. The genre had virtually disappeared when Wapner left in 1993, but " Judge Judy" revived it four years later. Wapner has seen snippets of Judge Judy's work, but hasn't watched any of the other programs. " I never watched myself," he said. " Why should I watch them?" He slipped easily into the judical robes Monday to tape the 3,000th show with Doug Llewelyn and Rusty Burrell, the court reporter and court officer on the original " People's Court." The 300th anniversary show is scheduled to air on Nov. 16 in syndication." Related Shows
